I downloaded the original PMFB teams and have a question about an offensive pass play used by the Badmen called "TE Under Slot L."Â When the play is run, there is always a penalty on lineman #74 (Rhode Block) indicating he lined up as an ineligible receiver. I believe an offensive tackle can be eligible under certain circumstances (e.g. reporting to the ref before play). Is it possible to make an offensive lineman eligible in PMFB or are they always considered ineligible receivers?
Thanks.
Yes, the actual rule is that a lineman can report as eligible. However, the implementation in v2.x is not that sophisticated and requires that non-linemen line up on the outermost positions of the line of scrimmage. That's one that could probably be corrected pretty easily if the code just assumed the linemen always reported and calculated who was eligible to go down field on the fly. By the way, the penalty was not enforced that way in v1.0 - which is why the Badmen shipped that way.
Why does pmfb not call the handoff to an ineligible reciever penalty? that is key to the buttsniffer runs sucess... if PMFB called that penalty, 1/2 the buttsniffing runs would be called as penalties.

Maybe it's worth considering a tweak to the code to assume the linemen always reported and calculated who is eligible to go down field. A number of penalties show up with the earlier teams since, as Brian mentions, v1.0 did not enforce the penalty.
I suppose another option would be to have some kind of pop up message box where one can indicate whether the linesman is declaring eligibility in certain situations. Not being a programmer, possibly this would be difficult to implement and not really worthwhile. Not sure how this would impact the AI. There are certainly some creative trick plays one can use with an eligible linesman. ;)

Which would lead me to wonder how long it would be before most leagues simply banned plays using eligible linesmen.
