Separating Offense and Defense

Hello all,
Would it be possible to separate offense and defense in a playbook, thus enabling a coach to design different offensive and defensive gameplans and to combine them with one another? Today you have to clone playbooks to do this.

I'd like to understand what you're after.  The team and playbook are actually moving into a single a file in the next release in an attempt to consoidate everything.  Would it help if you were allowed to create multiple game plans in the same file that combined different sets of plays?

Brian, yes that would be a welcome addition. But I think what he's looking for is a way to simply link an offensive book and defensive book without having to transfer all of the plays into a single book. For instance, if I had Five different offensive playbooks named 1-5 and five different defensive playbooks named A-E I'd be able to simply combine them in any way I wanted: 1C, 3A, 4B, etc.

I think this could be accomplised easier by simply having a way to transfer entire sections of the playbook into a new book. Something like check boxes to select the entire offense, the running plays, the passing plays, special teams, kicking...you get the idea. A way to select multiple plays or groups of plays without having to transfer them all individually.

I guess I wasn't clear enough on what I wanted, but CoachDread explained pretty much what I was talking about. That way I could have a pass oriented defense for use against certain opponents and a more blitzing type gameplan against others. And I won't have to tweak my existing D before each game. Each gameplan would have a separate AI for its plays, though of course one play could be in multiple gameplans (but with different AIs).

That sounds like you wish to put mutilple playbooks inside a single playbook file and be able to turn a section on or off.  Personally, linking sets of plays to the same AI (if that is possible) so that entire sets of plays turn on or off within a single playbook as the game is played would be a nice setup.  Such as, having plays linked to each other so that if one sideline passing play worked, others would get turned on, but if it got picked off once or twice and wasn't working at all, it could adjust other sideline passing route plays to knock down their AI priority so the individual plays would not need to get called (and picked off) before they would adjust themselves.

Almost, actually I only meant that in a given game you would play with one of those multiple gameplans. In a league for example you would choose to play opponent A with gameplan 1, and against opponent C you would play with gameplan 5.

Linking plays to each other (the sideline passing example)  is another concept, but not what I meant. Although it too would be nice, it seems to me that it should be executed differently and not as multiple gameplans. Maybe there could just be an option to group multiple plays under the same priority/sample adjustments.

Re: Separating Offense and Defense

do you mean you want to have one archive file that you can assign multiple gameplans within?  Personally I have individual playbooks with such game plans and most of my game prep for league play is copying a defensive playbook into a blank and copying an offensive playbook from an entire different playbook into a blank playbook.  It seems to me you can already do exactly what you want and not try to house the entire play archive into one gigantic file.

Which is why I'd like to see an option to transfer an entire offense or defense without having to move every play individually.

Or if there were a way to link plays through the AI as a package that then also were transferable?  To me it is far more valuble to have plays turned on and off without them getting called, but if this were part of a package and the whole package could also then be transferred with a click of the button, that would be highly valuble.

That's what I mean. Linking plays through AI is also something I'd like to see addressed, but it seems more complicated to me.

Re: Separating Offense and Defense

I think I am seeing what people are talking about with this, or at least what some people are talking about, but what I see using it for is a two-minute offense.  If I have pass A, pass B, and pass C as my two-minute offense for going all-out at the end of the game down by 4, I would have hopefully been calling those plays in the normal course of coaching.  Then when the two-minute AI kicks in, it could borrow the success or failure from the previous plays run in the normal course of the game since a coach wouldn't think "Well, pass B tanked the three times we called it during the game, but why not give it a try now that we're desperate when pass A has been wide open the 9 times we've run it?"  The ability to tie one play's call frequency to another play which has different parameters (mostly time of game) would be helpful.
